sometimes I think that the ocean is like love

sometimes I think that the ocean is like love
it's an ever growing, ever moving, ever changing body
the seemingly broken, glassy surface
with all the reflections of the sun moon and skies
is one smooth skin that sways and swoons endlessly
beneath this surface lie the deepest valleys
and the tallest mountains man can fathom
a living mass filled with wondrous creatures,
many, many still unknown.

We all talk about the depth of the ocean
it is also possible to talk about its height
its breadth, its volume, its colors
the taste of it, its morning scent
the many drops that make the ocean are too the ocean
unnoticed, they exist for the larger purpose--

The waves will wash ashore and entice us
and in we walk--you, me and all the others
and just like that we're a child again
and we play and swim and chase each other
and run and throw ourselves on the sand--
there are no true strangers here.
We find our friends, companions
with nothing behind which to hide
our skins exposed to the sun, wind, water
the ocean's spray keeping us cool
