A great quote but one that can be misleading ... yes, the past is the bridge we continuously walk on to reach the now ... and, indeed, we cannot dwell on the past ... but sometimes the past tints our lives with experiences that can turn our now into an arduous, repetitive cycle ... in the last few months I've learned that sometimes we have to revisit the past, with perspective of course, to understand where we are and take the turn we need to take--and only then shape the Now that can build a lasting future ...

Do not dwell on the past ... I take it to mean that we should exorcise the dark experiences, not get stuck on those dark experiences but rather learn the lessons that come with them; and those lessons will allow us to move forward in a meaningful, edifying way--make for a present that can be fruitful -- some of us can manage the parallel experience and others may need to retreat and withdraw ...

The dichotomy of the past ... we carry with us and yet we must leave it behind -- leave behind the minutiae and build on the lessons -- stronger and with the self knowledge to create
