Irreconcilable Differences

According to Wikipedia, the terms refers to "Any sort of difference between the two parties that either, cannot be changed or, the individual does not want to change, can be considered irreconcilable differences. Some states use the terms irremediable breakdown, irretrievable breakdown, or incompatibility. However, in some states the official ground is irreconcilable differences or one of the other "I" grounds, but then the state's statutory definition of that term may include a waiting period or a mutual-consent requirement."

so, a guy I care very much about recently told me that we had irreconcilable differences ... which I did not not really understand so I had to look up the term ... someone  else who is very insightful told me that this guy said that out of fear ... fear that we had irreconcilable differences and not that we actually did ...
I am still not clear on what he meant .. he just threw out the term as if they were someone elese's words and not is own ... but seemed quite sure of it ....
Now that I have read what the term means, I am total disagreement with his assessment. I do believe that he may believe what he said, and that is due most likely to the road he has chosen to take ... more than irreconcilable differences, I believe he has made a conscious choice to give up on our friendship because we are at a crossroads ... the friendship, which has been stagnant and was not footed on a foundation of mutual trust and honesty, has to evolve ... has to move forward--thus the fear ... and it is easier to just dissolve it and let it go that to face the fear {and of this I am myself guilty} ... I honestly think I have been afraid of the very strong bond that has tied us together ... and I think he feels equally afraid ...

It's easier to just keep everything as is than be bold and move to the next level, whatever that may be ...

ah, fear
