what is a dream?

what is a dream? the desires that lurk in the deeper recesses of our being materialized, personified? our hopes, wishes, wants and even fears? is that all that a dream is?
covered by the night's darkest veil, we give life to the life that is within ... seeking solace in a nether world, our mind creates a fanciful play ... which is the life we live and which is the dream?
the longings, games and peoples that inhabit our inner world take shape ... all create their own Potemkin  village of love and joy and fear ...
do I follow you in this or that dream? I have been following you always and will always do
in some exotic land the sun does shine, and I reside in you and you in me ... like in a dream and not a dream
and I do follow you into your house, and it's the only house I know even sight unseen
so does this earth do turn and tumble, the tenuous thread that binds is stronger than that will to scape the dreams that fill the gap
the clock is ticking, furiously ticking ... and in the book of life I've read a verse or two
my face revealed, my mask revealed, my heart revealed, my fate revealed
and in this dream the waking man will lose his steps.
