heart's care

When a heart withers
It dries like the autumn leaves
And flies by the whims of the wind

When a heart withers
The love it harbored is transformed
And an echo fills its chambers

When a heart withers
The sweet honey hidden in a memory
Can't feed the body's hungers

When a heart withers
The tenderest affections
May keep hope's doors opened

When a heart withers
The closeness of two bodies
Is not a palliative for a wanting spirit

When a heart withers
The love hidden in the deepest core
Ceases to flow.
