the dark side

Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darkness of other people.
~Carl Jung

the understanding that
the mask in the mirror is my reflection
and yet not
that the undercurrent of weakness that I see in you
are the many faces that I fear in myself;
to know that your weakness is the weakness I fear
and that in me became my baseline strength,
that I instinctively shunned my weakness by striking first
that twisting the arm of the other served to hide my fear
that even hidden behind a veil of guilt,
was the satisfaction to see their tears.
