The Path Of Self-Indulgence, Temptation, Wild Behavior, Lust And Addiction

Hi G. The Devilish Side Of Your Personality Will Entice You To Do Something That You Normally Would Not Do, Possibly Luring You Down The Wrong Road...

But, There Is A Positive Side, Which Is Cutting Yourself Loose And Living For The Moment…

The Story About Pan

In Mythic Tarot and Greek Mythology, you meet Pan (the god of the mountain wilds, and rustic music). Pan was half man and half goat, born with horns, a beard, a tail, and goat-legs. In some legends, it is said that Hermes (the messenger of the gods) fathered a child with the nymph, Dryope (the daughter of king Dryops). Pan was born very ugly, and his mother ran away from her child because she was terrified at the sight of her new born son.
Hermes took his son to Olympus, and showed him off to the gods. Meanwhile, Pan grew up and wondered the forests, caves, mountains, streams and pastures and became a musician, playing his reed pipes and the syrinx. He loved poetry, and danced with the nymphs, and he was known as the god of wild nature and felt at home in the forest, hanging around with the nymphs. He was always pursuing the nymphs and trying to seduce them, but the nymphs rejected Pan because he was so ugly. Pan’s name is also part of the word “panic” and it was said that he made unusual noises in the woods that scared others away in a panic!

Pan holds a chain that is attached to a naked woman and a naked man, and they are dancing and cutting themselves loose and living for the moment. The chain represents that the man and woman want to be tied to their wild naked behavior, and if you look closer, you will see that their hands are free to release the chains that bind them. But the man and woman choose to remain tied to the chains by their own free will. The dark cave represents the area that Pan resides (the devilish side of yourself), the secret side of your unconscious desires!

Have you ever taken a chance and walked out of your comfort zone to live for the moment? Did your experience turn out to be a good experience, or did your experience leave you with regrets? Did you know that you have a hidden side to yourself that needs and desires to explore your devilish side?

My Interpretation Of The Devil

The Devil doesn‘t have a great deal of power over you, but your devilish side of your character will entice you to do things that you normally would not do, possibly luring you down the wrong road. The devilish side will elicit your weaknesses if allowed. Sometimes you relinquish your control and feel trapped, no longer in charge of yourself. You give your power away and find yourself beset by ills.

You should not fear the Devil, but rather yourself. This is a card about wild behavior, lust, desire, ambition, temptation, addiction, and abandonment. The Devil may represent a person that has a lot of power and control over you, difficult to resist. When you give into your temptations, you will be chained to your desires for that which harms you. You are taking bad risks, which ultimately lead to unhealthy behavior and trouble.

The Devil card explores the frightening nature of your shadow side. There will be a time in your life when you meet a person who will make your heart skip a beat, and you will not be sure what hit you. You will ask yourself, “Is it lust or love?” You will find yourself thinking about this person every minute of your day. When you feel this way, you are talking about the “Devil Card.”

This may be a warning that you need to question yourself and the other person’s motives. You usually know when something is bad for you, but when you get hit with your “Devilish Desires,” it’s hard to control your feelings and wants. It is imperative to look at the situation to see if you are on a destructive path. Are you willing to pay the consequences for jumping in too fast without thinking something through?

For example, you might be in an extramarital affair with a person that will not commit to you, but you stay with that person because you feel a magnetic attraction to them that will not let you move on. Another example is the addiction to shopping because the feeling of something new makes you feel wonderful; but when the newness wears off; you repeat the same behavior until you land in financial trouble. Your addiction, obsession, and lack of control have led to trouble, the hallmark of the Devil card.

There is a positive side to the Devil card, and it is about cutting yourself loose and living for the moment. This card can be magical, showing you how to escape into that crazy and fun side of yourself, ready to take a walk on the wild side. In a reading, the Devil card can be a good omen when it is surrounded by positive cards. It may mean that the person you are seeing has fallen head over heels for you, and it may herald a serious commitment that will lead to marriage in your future.
