The Executioner
Every man creates his executioner:
real or imagined, perceived or physical,
the executioner thrives, flourishes
grows and matures fed by this or that fear, fear of this that or the other
some carry their executioner with pride--just as one would a Coat of Arms
others hide it with shame, they disguise it behind kindness or disdain
for others yet, it is their raison d'ĂȘtre
and there are those who live in it as a bird in its nest--protected by their pain
they live comfortably in their unhappiness.
one is not born with the executioner, but many die because of him, or worse yet
many live drowning in their living tomb
allowing the routine of unfulfilling comfort mark set existence--
disatisfied, they find comfort in momentary pleasures, in fleeting gestures of acknowledgement
and the executioner grows, grows, grows
until he becomes the unyielding monster that keeps us stuck
until we settle but what has now become comfortable ...
and the body grieves, and more so the heart.
"But where is love in all this?" asks the inquisitive reader, "where?"
