walking around

walking around, the city light
the incongruous symmetry of every city block
the multiplication of doors and windows overwhelming the senses,
all closing and opening like the eyes and mouths of some mythical creature
a beast slithering its shadow over the city
covering every surface to reveal a west side sunset
while the east side is a clickity clack of steps drumming against the pavement
the city lives--shapes my imagination
the countless stream of words that build my thoughts
are laden with the sounds and visions of the city
the lights go on and off, the traffic floods the city
while dwellers stretch themselves to swallow the imagination
that fills the belly of this microcosmic metropolis
I walk around and my steps get lost in the dream of words
the gestation of sounds and images that haunts my very core
the reflections of an artificial forest of lampposts, cornices, souls
running away with a nostalgia of a possibilities.
