transformation, restructure and rebirth
Hi G*****.
You arrive at the path of the River Styx... The path of death represents transformation, restructure and rebirth. When transformation enters your life, you may feel a sudden shock, a sensation of bad luck crossing your path! You may even wonder, “Have I died?" The answer is no, but the path you were on did!
Have you ever wondered why your path suddenly ended, and why you never saw the end coming?
The Major Arcana Represents Major Life Lessons: If the Death card comes out on the first card of your reading in the positive position, you need to prepare for a major change and understand that transformation is knocking at your door. You are asked to step away from the past because a new opportunity is opening for you. If you do not listen, you might learn a lesson that will be painful. If the Death card shows up in the outcome of the reading in a positive position, you will face the future, and accept the changes you need to make, and you will let go of an old lifestyle that was not working for you.
The Story of Hades
In Greek Mythology, you meet Hades, god of the underworld, son of Titans Chronos and Rhea. Legends say that Chronos consumed each of his children (Demeter, Hestia, Hera, Poseidon, Hades) as soon as they were born, except for Zeus. His mother saved him by wrapping a rock in a blanket and presenting it to Chronos as her newborn! Rhea took Zeus away and raised him in safety. When Zeus grew up he confronted Chronos and made him regurgitate all his siblings, Hades being one of them.
After battling the Titans and overthrowing the older generation of gods (including his father), Zeus shared the powers of the world with his brothers by drawing lots for their powers and realms. Zeus drew the sky realm, Poseidon the sea realm, and Hades the underworld realm.
Although Hades drew a lesser power and realm than Zeus, his power was just as strong. He managed the underworld, and when a soul entered his domain, no one but Zeus could rescue it. It was said that being rescued from the underworld was very rare!
Even in the Death Card the Sun rises in the distance bringing a new day. The River Styx represents a sacred boundary because it separates the living from the dead. Three naked maidens (souls) beg Hades for more time on their paths. The first maiden offers Hades a blooming white poplar flower (white poplar flowers represent life, black poplar flowers represent funerals and death), the second maiden offers Hades a golden crown (assuring Hades that he could be the ruler of her life), and the third maiden offers Hades a pile of coins (all the coins that she will ever earn).
Endings are very difficult. You are forced to let go of the path you know so well, to let go of dreams related to that path, and to leave your comfort zone. You must let go and experience the painful ending. Then you must accept the ending to see the beauty of the new path that is waiting for you, and that is not easy to do!
My Interpretation Of Death
The Death card represents that you will be reborn, and start anew. This card indicates transition. You have been brought down to your lowest point so that you can then soar to new, unprecedented heights.
The Death card's frightful appearance is offset by the Sun rising in the background, heralding a new day. The naked maidens are symbolic of the death of a situation, and the advent of a new transformation.
This card of rebirth recalls the story of the Phoenix who burned to death and was reborn. This mythical bird lives for 500 years, builds its own funeral pyre, and is consumed by the flames. The Phoenix rises anew from the ashes, symbolizing the rising and setting of the sun, immortality, resurrection, and life after death. The tale of the Phoenix sums up this card rather nicely.
When this card shows up in a reading, it means that a monumental change approaches. Where there is an ending, there is also a beginning. Sometimes this card relates to events beyond your control and simply steers you in a different direction. Everything changes. You can always count on change, no matter how long you've been at your job, been married, or lived in one location.
Death represents endings: one door is closing and another is opening! Accept the reality of endings and take solace in the inevitable rebirth that follows.
Positive Position: You will experience the end of a cycle or a path that was not good for you
